Nordic Semiconductor launches the nRF93M1 LTE Cat 1 bis Module

Rutronik has announced the immediate distribution availability of the nRF93M1, a pre-certified, compact LTE Cat 1 bis module developed by Nordic Semiconductor. Designed for deployment in asset tracking, smart metering, industrial monitoring, and connected smart devices, the module provides cellular connectivity paired with hybrid location capabilities for regional and worldwide deployments.

Single-Antenna Cellular Performance and Integrated Location Services
The nRF93M1 features an optimized single-antenna hardware architecture that delivers peak transmission data rates of up to 10 Mbps downlink and 5 Mbps uplink:
  • Hybrid Positioning Engine: Incorporates an integrated Wi-Fi beacon receiver alongside cellular-based location support, interfacing with nRF Cloud services for accurate indoor and outdoor positioning.
  • Turnkey Protocol Stacks: Supplied preloaded with Nordic firmware—including the full LTE protocol stack and upper-layer networking features—to minimize software engineering overhead and shorten commercial development cycles.
  • SIM Management Options: Supports flexible provisioning through multi-SIM configurations, GSMA IoT eSIM (SGP.32) specifications, and Nordic’s integrated software SIM framework.
Regional and Global Variants with Advanced Security Architecture
To support differing regional radio frequency requirements, the nRF93M1 is offered in two fully pin- and interface-compatible variants:
  • nRF93M1-LABA: A multi-regional module supporting LTE frequency bands and regional certifications across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • nRF93M1-LACA: A global variant supporting an extensive set of international LTE bands and regulatory certifications for worldwide operational coverage.
Security features include hardware-anchored security architecture, authenticated and encrypted firmware protection, and modern cryptographic transport protocols including TLS 1.2, TLS 1.3, and DTLS 1.2. The hardware is engineered to support compliance certifications including the European Radio Equipment Directive (CE RED) and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Development kits for the platform, the nRF93M1-DK, are in stock and available to order directly through the Rutronik online shop for immediate customer evaluation and rapid proof-of-concept prototyping.
