Murata Manufacturing has developed the MGJ1T series of 1W surface-mount DC-DC converters to power high-side and low-side gate drive circuits. The component series targets high-voltage applications such as energy storage systems and industrial motor drives, and is showcased at the PCIM 2026 exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 9 to 11.
Voltage Requirements and Isolation Performance
To support increasing system voltages in microgrids and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the converters utilize block-coil transformer technology. The 1W devices support nominal input voltages of 12V, 15V, and 24V, providing regulated dual outputs of +15V/-3V, +15V/-5V, and +18V/-2.5V. The hardware is 100% tested to 6kVDC for one second and qualified to the same level for one minute. Recognized to the UL62368-1 standard, the units feature reinforced insulation with a continuous barrier withstand voltage of 2.2kVDC and an 800Vrms working voltage. The internal construction achieves 14mm of creepage and clearance.
Switching Stability and Noise Reduction
The series is characterized by a common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) exceeding 200kV/µs. Combined with a typical isolation capacitance of 2.5pF, this metric reduces high-frequency noise coupling across the isolation barrier, enabling stable switching operations in silicon carbide (SiC) circuit designs. Operating at a 700kHz switching frequency, the converters achieve up to 77% efficiency with a typical ripple and noise of 10mVp-p. The hardware maintains voltage regulation across varying load conditions and supports start-up into capacitive loads.
Environmental Testing and Assembly
The converters operate across an extended temperature range from -40°C to +115°C. The devices have undergone partial discharge evaluation to identify micro-level insulation defects, alongside JEDEC-standard environmental testing encompassing humidity, vibration, shock, and 1,000 thermal cycles between -40°C and +125°C. Manufactured in the United Kingdom, the MGJ1T series is packaged in a surface-mount, tape-and-reel format that is compatible with automated Pb-free reflow assembly processes.
Additional Context: This section details technical specifications and competitive benchmarking not included in the original product announcement
In the power electronics sector, 1W DC-DC converters designed for SiC and IGBT gate drives compete primarily on isolation voltage, coupling capacitance, and common-mode transient immunity (CMTI). Comparable products, such as the Mornsun QA series or RECOM Power's R-REF and RKZ series, provide similar dual asymmetric outputs required to securely bias SiC MOSFETs. A CMTI rating exceeding 200kV/µs is considered a high-tier benchmark, necessary to prevent false triggering caused by the extremely fast high-voltage switching transients characteristic of SiC components. Furthermore, maintaining an isolation capacitance around 2.5pF is critical for minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and leakage currents across the isolation barrier.
