Anritsu Corporation has launched the MT9100A Multi Channel Fiber Tester, the industry’s first solution designed to evaluate multicore optical fibers for next-generation high-capacity communications.
Initially introduced in Japan, the solution is now available globally, supporting the growing demands of AI and cloud-driven data infrastructure.
Enabling next-generation optical communications
With the rapid expansion of AI and cloud services, conventional optical fiber is approaching its transmission limits. Multicore fiber technology—featuring multiple transmission paths within a single fiber—is emerging as a key solution for increasing capacity.
Anritsu Corporation developed the MT9100A in collaboration with Tohoku University, leveraging a multi-channel OTDR method pioneered by Professor Masataka Nakazawa.
Advanced multi-channel OTDR measurement
The MT9100A synchronizes four Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) channels, enabling comprehensive evaluation of multicore fibers.
Key capabilities include:
- Measurement of transmission loss and return loss
- Visualization of core-to-core crosstalk distribution
- Analysis of signal interference along the fiber length
This allows engineers to better understand and optimize fiber performance during R&D and manufacturing.
Key features for improved efficiency
Crosstalk distribution visualization
The system displays spatial variations in inter-core crosstalk, helping identify localized interference and optimize installation conditions.
Single-end measurement
Testing can be performed from one end of the fiber, eliminating the need for operators at both ends and reducing labor and time during field deployment.
Faster multi-core testing
The MT9100A enables simultaneous measurement of up to four cores, improving inspection speed compared to conventional methods.
