Anritsu Achieves World’s First PTCRB Certification for 5G NR NTN RF Conformance Testing

Anritsu Corporation announced that its 5G New Radio RF Conformance Test System ME7873NR has achieved the world’s first PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board) certification for selected 5G NR Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) RF conformance test cases, in collaboration with Samsung and using Samsung’s NR NTN modem chipset.
Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) integrate satellite and airborne communication technologies with terrestrial infrastructure, utilizing satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) to extend connectivity beyond traditional ground-based networks.
With the introduction of 3GPP Release 17, NR NTN was formally incorporated into the 5G New Radio standard, enabling 5G devices to connect directly to satellites using the same protocols as terrestrial base stations. This advancement is a critical step toward global 5G coverage, including remote and underserved regions.
The PTCRB definition and approval of NR NTN test cases marks the official start of NTN device certification. As network operators worldwide increasingly adopt NTN to improve coverage and service quality, Anritsu’s certified test solutions will play a key role in supporting device validation and accelerating commercial deployment.

The ME7873NR is a 3GPP-compliant 5G RF conformance test platform, certified by both the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB. It supports:
- FR1 (Sub-6 GHz) testing out of the box
- FR2 (mmWave) testing when combined with an OTA (CATR) chamber
This flexibility enables comprehensive conformance testing for current and next-generation 5G devices, including NTN applications.
