ROHM’s Flexible Brushed DC Motor Driver ICs for a Wide Range of Applications
ROHM has developed two new motor driver ICs for brushed DC motors: the BD60210FV (20V, 2-channel) and the BD64950EFJ (40V, 1-channel). The devices are designed for a wide range of home and office equipment, including refrigerators, air conditioners, printers, and robotic vacuum cleaners.
As electrification accelerates across consumer and industrial equipment—particularly white goods—demand is rising for energy-efficient brushed DC motors and highly adaptable driver ICs that can support multiple applications while minimizing size and external components. ROHM’s latest solutions address these needs through versatile package designs suitable for both new platforms and redesigns, as well as ultra-low standby current (typ. 0.0 µA, max. 1.0 µA), enabling significant power savings during standby operation.
The BD60210FV operates as a dual H-bridge motor driver with direct PWM control. It can drive two brushed DC motors, a bipolar stepper motor, or solenoids. Its H-bridge configuration eliminates the need for a boost circuit, reducing component count and simplifying system design. The device supports input voltages from 8 V to 18 V, with 1 A continuous current per phase and up to 4 A peak current.
Product Lineup
The BD64950EFJ features a single H-bridge that supports both direct PWM and constant-current PWM control. Its low on-resistance design reduces heat generation and improves efficiency. With a withstand voltage of 40 V and current capability of 3.5 A continuous (6 A peak), it is well suited for high-power, 24 V brushed DC motor applications.
Both ICs are now in mass production and available through online distributors including DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell. Corresponding evaluation boards (BD60210FV-EVK-001 and BD64950EFJ-EVK-001) are also available to support rapid application development.
